What a Cold/Dull Response...just 4 comments!!!

I guess not many folks want to read these sunday strips from the 30s and 40s. What a waste of time for me to scan and make this available.....Now, makes me wonder should I even consider posting these? I guess the blog is coming to an end...
Those interested in these strips email me and I will send you the download links....

Dear Bala, you are doing a brilliant job in making these classics available to all of us. Don't lose heart if people are lethargic in giving you the feedback. These are true gems and one can assume that MASS APPEAL would be less. But your efforts are worth every praise.

I have a suggestion. Shed the imageshack and provide download link outright. Then consider number of downloads as your motivating factor rather than number of comments.

Thanks again for all the pain and efforts.

Hi Bala,

not a waste at all.

Remember: the people who dislike everything talks loud when the people who like them usually does not talk at all.

I, and certainly many, many other people, love these stories. They are one of the two best time for Mandrake stories (with the stories published in the 60s).

These stories have intrinsec qualities: both art and script are original and very unique.

For the people who dislike these stories: do you prefer the (Mandrake) 200x daily strips ?

Can you share stories you like ?

Best,

Emile

Bala no. of comment is not at all measure of the takers of a particular strip, rather you should measure it by no. of downloads of the particular strip.
Anyway i am a bit satisfied that now you have also realized that no. of comments is a big motivating factor for the bloggers like us who gives heavy toll in scanning/compressing and then uploading the scans.
You got irritated up to such extent by less no. of comments that you even threatened to abandon the blog!!!...yeah,thats the feeling which comes naturally.

Grouchy's Comics said...

I had a bad feeling about this when everytime I checked back I saw only 4 comments. If I felt bad how would bala feel?

I think Ijcs ae the biggest comment spinner. Look at Anupams blog. He used to post Ijcs only now and then. He got maybe one or comments for say three comics.
But for every IJC posted he would get 5/6 or more comments.

Comments are a way in which we shake hands with the blog owner and tell them how much we appreciate what they are doing.

For someone like me who posts only now and then comments are not so vital as to a regular blog owner like MTM, CW, ICC and ICC.

Come one guys! Imagine what we would miss if they all hut shop. Please dont let that happen.

achtungneo said...

pls. don't give up just for the sake of comments. we know how much of effort goes into each story to be uploaded. and surely comments do not measure up to that..take the number of people waiting for each strip/comic to be up with so much interest and then think what you are going to do.pls keep up the good work.

Hi!

I agree with my friends that please do not judge our appriciation for your efforts by the posts alone. Consider the huge number of downloads and hits to your site.

Dear MTM,ITS TIME I GOT IRRITATED NOW.
I said a lot about comments earlier. Its one thing that you can't expect. It has to come spontaneously, from the heart.Don't even let everyone know that. You bloggers have become LEGENDS for us already since you supply us with something that was possible only in dreams.Isn't it?
I feel obliged and grateful for that and hence never fail to cheer or comment on blogs.in fact i also respect you,MTM for even shifting your mode to Indrajal comics sometime back. That was a noble thing to do.Only on public demand.
I would suggest that you continue posting these wonderful strips and for someone who has no value for a guy who is doing all this for us being miles and miles away, its best that he or she doesn't comment.
I would never want a forced comment.I assure you iam with you all,my dear friends...Ajay,CW,ICC,MTM,TPH,TPH,
Anupam,Frank....to the very end.
And the least i can do is comment. Its all about giving 1%percent to these kind folk in return of 100% that we get.
Thanks

Bala,
Frankly,When you'd posted comics scanned by others n received averagely 0-2 comments per post....NEVER did complain!!

And,as You urself done this scanning job,that too of a B/W '40s mandrake,now 4 comments became dull!! :0(

huh..

P.S.- Guess, after some Blogger's pseudo-Good Bye attemt,it's now becomes an inspiratn to others, may b b4/in the NEW year,we'll see others will follow the same path as well!!!..

Well,it's like a bad flu..here it's spread through a very word "Good Bye"!!

Take care...

Anyway, Decision is yours, but think twice b4 takin' any such step!! :-)

COL. WEEKS said...

THESE ARE THE REAL THINGS.THANKS A LOT FOR POSTING SUCH A GOOD TREAT. PLEASE DO CONTINUE.

Ravi Satpathy said...

I totally agree with Sagnik that up till now mainly you were posting the scans done by other i.e. Ajay etc and you were quite happy with the no. of comments whether 2 or 3.You even made a statement when that password controversy was on its peak that you will never adopt the password protection policy as you feel that comments should come from one self without forcing anybody.
Now when you did scanning by yourself and experienced the painstaking effort behind scanning/uploading etc,you got irritated by the unexpected no. of comments!!!
Isn't its a double standard from your side as on one hand you didn't supported TPH/CW/ICC on the password protection issue and now when you happen to get the taste of non-appreciation for your "real efforts" you got irritated and trying to follow the same policy of sending links via mail those who asks for it or appreciate you!!

Anonymous said...

This is a great site. Please don't stop posting.

Chandan said...

Ravi, don't strech the issue. Its nothing like that.Try to understand that.
Iam sure Bala is more concerned regarding the type of strips than scanning. He wanted to see more people appreciate those vintage strips rather than scans.
Once in a while if we don't understand their feelings then you know it can get real frustrating.
Come on,let's appreciate the effort and not mix or confuse things.

deratt1 said...

We all have come to look to this site as one of the few places where we can find these wonderful classic posts. I can understand your frustration. Please don't give up!!

All of you indeed are making me feel good and I think I will come back.!!!
@IFC:Thanks for the appreciation. I just wanted to know if people liked the story or not, not commenting at all threw me off. I will take your 1000 comments offer and am glad to hear it.
@Mozz:You are welcome
@Teddyk:You are welcome. Glad to hear that.
@TPH:Good to hear from you. Thanks for the appreciation. You are welcome. I will consider doing that.
@Emile: Very nice to hear from you after a long time.Glad to see you comment. Agree fully with you.
@CW: Well said. I fully agree with you and had not realized until now.
@GS: Exactly how I felt. Thanks a lot friend for putting it across.
@achtungneo:Glad to hear that. You are welcome.
@Chatur Cheeta: I should take that approach going forward. Thanks for the appreciation.
@Suman:Glad to hear that. I guess, people are very much interested in reading the strips but not willing to comment until now. I will consider the number of hits and downloads as a measure instead of the comments.

grimgrom said...

Your site is really great, and it s a pleasureto read these old stories.I remenber when i was a child whenI come here.Thanks.

Phantom And Mandrake Fan said...

@Chandan:Man, You are absolutely right. I always love the straight forward approach and the comments you make. The comments have to come from the reaader's heart. It is wrong to have expectations. Appreciate your feedback and gratitude.
@Dara: You are mistaken. It is not that I expect more comments only for the scans that I made and not for the scans Ajay provided. That would clearly be a double standard (as Ravi who rarely comments put it). Let me clear it up. The thought of me quitting was because nobody had expressed the liking to read the vintage strips when I posted this Sunday series from Pioneer. All the new Indrajal scans provided by Ajay & others can only last temporarily. I am sure if I intended to quit, CW, ICC & TPH would post those. Hence, the thought of quitting. After reading these comments, I am convinced people will admire the strips. Got your email as well and thanks for the appreciation.
@Col.Weeks: Appreciate the feedback. Expect to read more classic strips here.

Bala,
It`s good to see your last coment. :-)

Phantom And Mandrake Fan said...

@Ravi: That was a long comment after a long time. Nevertheless, Chandan has answered your question I guess. It is not about me being concerned about the number of comments for this particular dailiy scan alone since I took the "real effort" as you put it. I did not feel good about password protection for downloads as I am placing myself in your place as a reader, who wants to read offline.
Anyway, lets get to enjoy some of these classic scans.
@Anon: Thanks for commenting and visiting. May I have your name, next time? Please be a frequent commenter as well.
@Chandan: Thanks for putting my thoughts into words & understanding my position.
@grimgrom: You are welcome. I wanted to bring those feelings in the readers. I guess the blog has achieved that.
@Octon: Thanks for the appreciation. Glad to hear you say that. Second Story coming soon...

Ravi Satpathy said...

Bala i accept that i don't comment more frequent because of my lazy attitude but its not so that i don't appreciate or download the comics which all of you (you CW/ICC/TPH) provides to reader like us who don't have access to these gems.
But whenever i see that there is some valid point which has to be really raised/spoken out then i am forced by my inner self to speak it out.
What i feel odd about you that up till now you were putting up comics scanned by others and you didn't complained even a single time about the quantity of comments whether they may be zero or one but as soon as you put up your money and efforts in purchasing the Sunday volume and scanning/uploading it you became so curious/furious about the readers of these vintage strips!!!
If the point which irritated you as you also mentioned in your comments that you were frustrated to know was that there were not many readers for these vintage strips then you could have conducted a visitors poll asking about to post these strips or not....that would have helped you a lot by saving your "real efforts" if the poll result comes negative.
You became so much irritated by non-appreciation only after posting one single comic consisting your "real effort"!!!!...if this is the case then i would appreciate and rate CW far greater as he is the sole blogger who has been posting comics, from a considerable period of time a majority of which are his own scans, without any real sulking, gimmicking or complain(though he also regulated the d/l links but for a very short while).
TCP,the pioneer of comic blogging has also posted almost all comics scanned by others,ICC and you have also posted almost all comics scanned by someone else.
TPH is also a other guy who has posted comics scanned by himself but he too was too eager and hungry for appreciation that after a couple of post he wished for extra and 'forced' appreciation by raising password controversy and ultimately self blotted his image by flip flopping and gimmicking his exodus.

The Phantom Head said...

Dear Bala, Whether own scans or someone else, sharing these vintages with all of us is something really commendable. There are many people having access to these classic gems, but except you/icc/cw/anupam, how many are taking the pains to post these? More so with strips. Thousands are having these but again you are among very few who are sharing with us. Over the time a system is formed. Mr. Ajay Mishra put enormous amount of time and energy to scan these and the comic blogs are providing them to the public. Every one has its own importance.

This is extremely shameful and thankless act of some people to defy your efforts by saying you are only after appreciation of your "real effort". Funny thing is that the criticism always comes from those who themselves have nothing to offer, not even a simple thank-you.

#Dear Ravi,Your tone is totally different this time. Is it because of the bite you recieved last time from the living being? (I hope you remember your words at ICC)

DARA,TPH....stop it yaar..
Enough is enough.
Dara, iam sorry iam a good friend of yours but just look where you are heading.
Iam telling you all this story and please listen to this with rapt attention specially TPH AND DARA...

Lord Buddha used to go asking for alms from people along with his disciples.Once it so happened that one of the persons was just livid with Lord Buddha. He called him bad names and asked him to go away without offering him anything.
The LORD quietly went away but his disciple who was with him asked...
My Lord, why did you keep quiet? He insulted you and you showed no signs of getting angry?
Lord Buddha said..
Tell me if someone offers you something and if you don't want to accept it,then with whom does that thing remain?
The disciple replied..With the owner of course.
Lord Buddha:So you see ,even if he rebuked me it was upto me to accept it or not.I chose not to accept the bad words and hence they will remain with the one who said those,do you understand?

Do we all understand this?
TPH--you have just returned. There is no need to start it all over again.Please.
Again,i don't have any right to fall in bet'n but i have always wished people to live in harmony with each other.
The worst words that we use only prove to others where we stand.
Its very easy to break a relation but equally difficult to build.
Hopefully after this no such vulgar episode should take place here or anywhere else.
Your very own,
Chandan

Dear Chandan, the enlightened one, It's very nice of you to attempt for a cease fire, but please see that I am only egging on it so that it can cast off at least some of the litter that it is carrying in its head. Otherwise it may die of this weight only. Today it has produced just 0.00000000000000001% of the total. I am sure it will be feeling relieved. So in a way I am deserving some praise.

As for the story of Lord Budhdha, I have heard this one. This is a beautiful story but now a days I am reading more adventures stuff such as:

The Giant Termite (IJC #092)
Incredible Household Menace (IJC #083),
The Gigantic Worm (IJC #226),
The Master Creature (IJC #298),
The Blacke Eyed Monster (IJC #V20N06~08, a three part one, and you know part stories are excellent),
The Human Beast (IJC #024),
The super ape (IJC #034),
The Hairy Monster (IJC #073),
The Kolkata Giant (IJC #091)
Neeli Ghati Ka Rakshas (IJC #301-02, again a part adventure)
Langda Aatank (IJC #V20N47)
Khooni Giddha (IJC #V22N46)
Aatank Ka Devta (IJC #V26N17).

There are few others but I am aftraid they are not from Indrajals but I promise yoy they are no less either. Have a look:

Autobiography of a filthy worm,
Confessions of a vermin,
My experiments with Litter.

I highly recommend you these books.

And dear chandan if you have slighest of idea of human history, you would know that all peace loving and prosperous civilisations have always been attacked by savages and barbarians. The good one lost just because they were too timid to protest and protect themselves. So wisely and don't act like a snake charmer.

Chandan said...

"So wisely and don't act like a snake charmer".
TPH---I didn't get this.Please clarify,just curious.

The Phantom Head said...

sorry, just a typo.

"Think wisely and don't act like a snake charmer."

You are a nice person with soft heart. These are good qualities but sometimes may invite trouble when dealing with savages. Sometimes your extra soft approach makes me feel irritated. Like the last time when you wrote something in marathi to icc and then..... You have every right to express your feeling as you wish without asking a bully first what to write.

Ravi Satpathy said...

TPH i very well remember my words at ICC and still on that very issue i am with you,the current words which i spoke out was about that which i honestly felt about you.
TPH regarding Dara's character there is no doubt in our minds, every regular is well aware of his ugly deeds in past as well as in present, hence there is no need for a person like you to confront him as if you wish to do so you will have to step down from your level and pay back him in his own language but that will be a quite ugly scene which no body among us want to witness.
Hence my sincere advise to you is to keep patience and continue with your good work with more maturity and sincerity this time.
Chandan you are trying to sell goggles in the land of blinds as in the modren era of zero tolerance and ultimate degradation of human values who has such wits and wisdom to understand or to follow the teachings of Lord Budhha!!!!!..anyway this reveals your character which is very rare and i sincerely wish that you could keep it intact and undistorted.

Chandan said...

Its not being soft hearted.Iam just patient.
It is easy to fight fire with fire.
But its easier to drowse it with water.
Isn't it?
I only want this to stop.I want people to speak more on comics.
Ravi,i see good in everyone. Its just the ego that makes the difference.
For once let's put each other in others' shoes and well.....we will realise that each one is right in his place.
Dara,TPH are my good friends and i only hoped that the 2 would compromise. My latest mails to both prove that.
TPH---your mail is still not OK?
Sent you one today also.

Dear Ravi, Don't you think it is a bit too harsh to blame bloggers to be 'hungry for appreciation' etc? Yaar, afterall we are also normal human beings and not saints and sages. so a desire for a little appreciation for effort may sometime creep in. That was the case for me but now I think it was a bit immature thing. I realised it after having a discussion/debate with that anon/male/indian. So gradually gave up the whole idea.

Some people called me stubborn and rigid when I insisted on p/w etc and some other like you as flip flopping when I gave it up. In both ways I am facing the firing squad.

Nonetheless, I like your writing style. If we could only persuade people like you to comment more often, then these blogs would have been still better places to hang around.

TPH I don't say that you people should not crave for appreciation, you should as you deserve it for providing us comics but to what i object is one should not be obsessed of appreciation, which i noticed you were sometime back..;o)
My being commenting more has some hindrance as first my being lazy, secondly i feel to write when i have something different to say and lastly uttering the same words of 'thanks' after each post doesn't excites me at all though in my heart i am hugely indebted to all of you comic bloggers for providing these lost gems to us.
If comic bloggers have complains about my being thankless then with due regards i wish to tell them its not the case,i am very much thankful to all of them and about my feelings for them i have mentioned in a comment over ICC also.
