#088: Biblioteka Nostalgija 01 Mandrak Madjionicar

UPDATE: Thanks for the comments, Anon:

Actually, Yugoslavia was composed of more republics, so the label is wrong. There are Serbian, Slovenian and other Mandrake editions. This one is Serbian, and there are many more, starting from the 1930s when Mandrake became highly popular in Serbia.

First Sunday strip S001 - The Hidden Kingdom of Murderers 02-03-1935 to 05-26-1935 I have only 3 pages. These are hard to find or come by. So if anybody gets any vintage strips please scan them.

Found this Yugoslavian Mandrake magazine having the full Sunday and some more:
Here is the full book cover to cover. Thanks to a Yugoslavian friend "Fantom"

Holy Magic Cows!

What a collection of the Sundays.

Now we need a translator to decode all into English, and that will take someone time to do if at all.

Pity someone with an English collection could provide a translation of the Yugoslavian story.

Nice work there, Balaji.

Keep 'em comin'. Really enjoying this as even I haven't seen them before!

Dear Bala,

Havent been able to comment for the last few posts because of an erractic internet connection. Enjoyed the Mandrake wedding digest and Dragour from Vega. The audio comics were interesting and a nice change!

Amazing to see how Mandrake was potrayed in his first Sunday strip!!
I am surprised to see Lothar here. I thought Lothar was included by Falk only after Mandrake became a little popular. Or is it because the Sunday strip came a long while after the daily strip?

I am amazed at your dedication. A Yugoslav comic (a long one at that) surely wont have universal appeal. You could have simply given the download link. Yet you upload all thumbnails! amazing!
Thanks for all your efforts.

Bala i agree with Ajay that your blog is simply different, your dedication for this Silky Hat Magician is just great.
Its pleasant to know that in how many languages Mandrake has been published,i wonder whether Phantom also enjoyed the same mega multilingual feast.
Its really a Herculean task to upload all pages along with providing the download link too.
Keep your enthralling show intact, best wishes.

Colin: Thanks for the comments. You are welcome...Need a translator for sure.
I hope someone who has these sundays in English could provide me the scans. More coming soon...

GS:You are welcome...No problem...I liked the car sketches in the Mandrake strip. All the characters in the strip appear so much vintage compared to recent strips. I think the sundays came later and hence Lothar is here.
Thanks, the reason I did that was to ensure scans being available to fans even if the download links fail...

Dara: You are welcome...Some day I am hoping to find that translator/fan who has english scans. I have 1 story S005 in english that has already been posted. Have S004 the Circus people that I will post soon.

Ajay: You are welcome...Same here...Very true I have contacts atleast in these countries Norway, Sweden, France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Yugoslavia, Australia, Canada & of course India. Thanks for the appreciation.

CW: Thanks for the appreciation. You are welcome...I wonder the same as well. This one was a huge task, took me a while. Thanks for the wishes.
You guys have done a fantastic job in teaming up with TPH, ICC for the Amar Chitra Katha blog. Best wishes to you all for making this available.
